Washington, DC – After earning a respected name in the television industry former CNN journalist and Howard alumni Jennifer Thomas returned to her alma mater to teach young aspiring journalists, helping them on their path to starting their own journalism careers.
During her time at Howard University Thomas was heavily involved on campus and left quite a mark while earning her undergraduate degree. She was crowned Miss School of Communications where she swept the judges away with her voice in song, as well as becoming an avid member in the Howard University Gospel Choir.
With her major success while studying at Howard, Thomas was destined for a promising career in her field of study. She has reported and worked in multiple cities, those of which include but not limited to Washington D.C., Atlanta, and New York. She has produced on multiple shows including ET. Finally, Thomas got hired to a position at CNN where her first project was to oversee a month long Black History Month project.
“Professor Thomas holds an extremely important position within our company. She works so hard with any project she takes on; however, if needed for anything, she always makes time to help us and gives us her all” said WHUT-TV producer and director Luma Haj. (The transition to this paragraph could be much better. Does Prof Thomas work there? What does she do? Why not make that connection before.)
As Jennifer Thomas continued to gain more experience in the industry, she also gained more experience in the education field. Thomas completed another degree (what is this degree?) and now uses her extensive experience as a journalist in the classroom where she teaches college students at Howard University. She also continues to freelance for CNN and works on various production projects upon request.
“I always found it encouraging to follow every dream I’ve ever had. Working hard has been part of my morale since my youth. Now I find joy in helping my students experience happiness in success just as I have,” said Thomas.
However, amidst teaching aspiring journalist, she also puts in extra work by helping her students start their own careers in the industry. Professor Thomas helps her students by assisting in getting their work published on the Howard News Service website. She has served as a strong networking link and has helped other students land jobs in their field of study. But most importantly to her, she pushes her students hard in the classroom in order to mold them into their full potential.
“Professor Thomas pushed me harder than most professors I had in college. She urged me to give my all and was very active in my search for my career,” expressed former student Ellyce Ferguson.
